Do you have a goal that you're working on?
If so, let's have a conversation to see how I can help you meet that goal!
Coaching Cycles
Coaching cycles can take on different forms depending on the area of instruction that you are wanting to address. They are primarily one-on-one and involve a partnership between the coach and teacher; however, they can be adapted to fit the needs of a grade level team as well. Coaching cycles are a form of continuous improvement that resemble a model developed by the NHS Institute for Improvement with four stages--plan, do, study and act.
PlanDuring this stage of the coaching cycle, we will meet to discuss the area of improvement by developing a goal and action steps.
|
DoThe next stage of the cycle involves putting the plan in action and collecting student evidence or other data. Modeling, co-teaching, on-the-spot coaching, observation feedback, and data-tracking are some ways that I can assist with this stage.
|
StudyAfter collecting student evidence or other data, we will meet to discuss progress toward the goal. We will look for patterns, indications of growth, additional areas of concern, etc. We will use these things to determine the successfulness of the plan.
|
Act
Once we have studied the student evidence and other data, we will reflect on next steps to continue working toward the initial goal by monitoring and adjusting the plan. If the goal has been achieved, a new coaching cycle can begin!

Analyzing Data and the Formative Assessment Process
Impact teams can be formed with grade-level or department-level teams to analyze student evidence with the goal of building student and teacher knowledge of the standards. During impact team meetings, I will serve as a facilitator asking questions around student evidence to help the team deepen their understanding of student performance and how to meet the needs of the students with regard to the standards. Teams will work together to identify a standard for focus, determine the learning intentions and success criteria for that unit of instruction, develop common assessments to use for pre-/post- and formative assessments that are aligned to the appropriate depth of knowledge, reflect on student evidence and monitor student growth.
Data teams are similar to impact teams; however, they focus more on student scores. They can be used to monitor student achievement with regard to benchmark assessments and school/district goals. Teams will work together to norm assessments to ensure fidelity, analyze assessment data and form grade/class-level goals for each assessment period.

Unit Planning
Unit planning sessions will take a deep look into the instructional plans surrounding the standard(s) you plan to teach. We will explore the intended learning, what it looks like if students are successful, essential questions and big ideas, vocabulary, resources and much more! This is a great way to extend your understanding of the standards in one or more content areas and how those standards work together to create a unit. We will discuss how to navigate district provided resources and even examine resources you find online as a critical consumer. Plus, you can explore how you can take the driver's seat in developing a curriculum that is built around your unique students and personalized to meet your instructional approach.
Professional Development (+Embedded Support)
If you are looking to improve in a particular area of instructional practice, I can help by developing professional development that is differentiated for all levels. In larger group settings, I will incorporate presentation strategies that will help to keep you engaged and provide you opportunities to reflect and apply the learning. My goal is to provide you with relevant, research-based learning that is targeted to help you experience success and grow. If the professional development topic is one with which I'm not familiar, I love to learn alongside other educators and look forward to diving into the learning with you! In addition, we can work together to create a plan for embedded support following workshops and trainings. Professional development is one way that we can continue to learn and grow as educators, so let's make the most of these learning opportunities!
